From Liverpool’s Bench to England’s Spotlight…
Liverpool’s own peek-a-boo defender, Jarell Quansah, is having a moment! He’s just been summoned to join Thomas Tuchel’s debut squad for the World Cup qualifiers. And yes, he’s pinching himself because it feels as surreal as a cat playing the piano on the internet.
After almost making it into Gareth Southgate’s Euro squad – only to end up watching it from his couch – Quansah’s had a mixed bag season. He barely sees Premier League grass yet, thanks to super pals Konate and van Dijk locking down the defense duo act tighter than a magician’s hat trick. But, with half of Liverpool’s backline struggling with injuries, Quansah’s set to shimmy his way into the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle. Cross your fingers he won’t trip over Wembley’s hallowed turf!
Quansah is over the moon – not literally, of course – about his England call-up, which has him imagining unicorns and rainbows. Yet, he hasn’t had his coffee chat with Tuchel. The defender mused: “Life in football’s wild, man. One moment you’re in, then out. But hey, if you’re not bounced out the Euros to binge-watch Netflix, are you really trying?”
It seems Jarell Quansah may have just leapt from ‘raw talent’ to ‘the real deal’, and who knows, maybe he’ll even get to play this time!
