His loan at Wigan became the sketchiest of rides with more spine-tingling turns than a haunted house! The long arms of injury played the ultimate game of football tag, springing a recurring back injury in his pursuit to be the hero of Wigan. Left watching from the sidelines like a snowman in sunny July, he hobbled back to Merseyside after his season was rudely interrupted by that ol’ back-stabbing back.
In the cartoon-new world of Wigan, under the interim rule of Glenn ‘Boss by Day, Doctor by Night’ Whelan, Chambers made an epic comeback just to hit another bump in the pitch. With a new boss Ryan ‘The Axe’ Lowe wielding his managerial might, a ‘not quite right’ nod from Chambers during training had him foosball-ed back to Liverpool. Lowe, acting with drama worthy of a football soap opera, nodded sagely, “Obviously, we’re not quite right.” His compassion was the icing on this unfortunate football cake.
But, dear readers, not all comic heroes wear capes; sometimes, they sport Liverpool jerseys and never say die! Chambers is putting his feet up, switching out games for rest, with fingers and toes crossed for a speedy comeback.
