Fans Flock to Honor Jota in Unique Ways…
A beautiful new mural of Diogo Jota has been unveiled at Anfield just in time for the Premier League kickoff. Liverpool and the global soccer community are still processing the shocking loss of Jota and his brother Andre Silva. During Liverpool’s opening friendly against Athletic Bilbao, the game paused in the 20th minute to honor their permanent No. 20. It was one of those emotional moments where it felt like even the clouds over Anfield shed a tear right alongside the fans. Before the game, emotional tributes were led by Phil Thompson and Jon Uriarte, laying wreaths to remember Jota.
Supporters have been busy showing their love for Jota and Silva. Everywhere you turn in Liverpool, there’s either a mural or a pop-up tribute for him. The fan channel Redmen TV arranged a wall for fans to write messages, and a cherry picker was on standby like the world’s most emotional taxi service, lifting fans to reach the top of the new mural. Demand was so high, one might think the mural was giving free chips! Although gone, Jota and Silva’s memories continue to inspire, and the club has retired the No. 20 jersey, unveiling plans for a statue in their honor at Anfield.
