McAteer Talks About United’s Struggles…
Former Liverpool ace Jason McAteer has surprised football fans by admitting he wants Manchester United to get back to challenging at the top of the Premier League. Since Sir Alex Ferguson hung up his managerial boots in 2013, United has been about as successful at winning titles as a penguin trying to fly. Following a dismal 15th-place finish last season and three winless games this season, the Red Devils are finding themselves further from the top than ever, and their recent defeat to League Two’s Grimsby Town was like a clown slipping on a banana peel at a circus.
But McAteer, the ex-Red, isn’t all about reveling in United’s woes. He fondly recalls the days when Liverpool chased United, comparing it to trying to catch a cheetah while wearing roller skates. He admitted, “We want them to challenge as long as we’re winning too,” highlighting the rivalry’s enduring intensity. Yet, with senior leadership fumbling more than a butter-fingered waiter, McAteer’s optimism about United’s resurgence isn’t exactly on the horizon. Despite the desire for a stronger opponent, he cheekily admitted to enjoying their losses now and then.
