Eddie Howe Discusses Liverpool Clash…
Eddie Howe claimed that Anthony Gordon was unlucky to be sent off in the intense clash between Liverpool and Newcastle at St James’ Park. Gordon received a yellow card for his challenge on Virgil van Dijk, but the referee, Simon Hooper, later upgraded it to a red after visiting the VAR screen. Howe explained, “I’ve only seen it once during the game,” like he was trying to watch a movie during an earthquake. Howe continued, “Anthony committed to the tackle but seemed to slip and couldn’t stop himself in time.”
Liverpool initially went two goals ahead through Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, but Bruno Guimaraes and Will Osule brought Newcastle back into the contest even with 10 men. Then, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha pulled a rabbit out of his hat, scoring his first Premier League goal in the 100th minute. Howe praised the fight his players showed despite the outcome, as if they were auditioning for a new action movie. He expressed concerns about injuries to Joelinton and Sandro Tonali and also having Fabian Schar with a concussion. Newcastle’s next challenge is away against Leeds United.
