In a twist worthy of a magic show, Ibrahima Konate managed to dodge what seemed like a guaranteed red card after shoving PSG’s Bradley Barcola like he was moving around furniture. Formerly a highly-respected international referee, Said Ennjimi, had his whistle of wisdom out, suggesting Konate was luckier than a lottery winner as no red card or VAR redirection came his way. Much to PSG boss Luis Campos’s eye-popping annoyance, the on-field magician, er, referee, ignored the incident while the crowd gasped dramatically.
During the match’s halftime entertainment, Rio Ferdinand pulled out his detective sunglasses and said, “I need new glasses if that’s not a foul because even in slow-mo it screams RED CARD! If that’s not a red card, pigs must be flying.” Stephen Warnock chimed in on BBC Radio with a classic, “Well, that’s one for the ‘really could’ve been’ shelf of football mysteries.”
Meanwhile, PSG’s Vitinha decided to toss aside the grudge and focus on the football spirit, saying, “We won’t point fingers at Konate’s Houdini act for our non-victory. We’ll keep our eyes on the prize, aka putting that ball into Liverpool’s net! We’ll surely sparkle next round!”
