Liverpool Competes To Sign Defender Collins…

Liverpool have their laser-focused eyes on Brentford’s sturdy defender Nathan Collins this summer. Word on the street—or rather, the sports news circuit—is that the ex-Wolves player is thought of as highly and as often as a golden-egg-laying goose at Anfield. With Jarell Quansah hopping over to Bayer Leverkusen and leaving behind a center-back-sized hole, finding a new defensive partner in crime is on Arne Slot’s to-do list. The Reds, hoping to avoid another deja vu defensive drama like the 2020/2021 season hiccup, might only have two reliable defenders, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, ready to rumble.

But, as if Liverpool’s task wasn’t already an uphill climb, along comes Tottenham Hotspur trying to woo Collins away faster than a magician yanking a tablecloth from under a full diner set. Made club captain at Brentford and receiving love letters from his head coach Keith Andrews, Collins might need a clone to handle all these suitors. Yet, despite a lot of chatter, no one has taken the leap to make an official offer quite yet. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s attempts to court Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, supposedly priced at $53 million like he’s the Mona Lisa of defenders, have hit two speed bumps, while Tottenham once threw $93.2 million in January just for fun.
