Alan Hansen Scores Another Win at Windsor Castle…
Liverpool’s own Alan Hansen, who’s got more silver than a pirate’s chest, bagged himself an MBE today at Windsor Castle. The former Liverpool and Scotland defender, who’s made punditry as exciting as penalty shootouts, now adds another badge of honor for his services to football and TV chatter. This guy joined Liverpool back in 1977 from Partick Thistle and decided he’d stay 620 matches, winning everything but the kitchen sink!
Hansen, now living the good life at 69 in scenic Southport, gave the docs the slip last June after a “seriously ill” spell, according to Liverpool FC. Known as possibly Liverpool’s Greatest Defender Ever (we’ll get that engraved somewhere), his stats are fresher than tomorrow’s newspaper: 19 goals, 25 honors, and a history of making the Reds sing.
Despite a knee saying, “no more defending,” in 1991, Hansen giddy-upped into a pundit career that saw him swap boots for shoes on Sky and the BBC for more than two decades. The man knew a good game when he saw one, wrapping up his TV gig after the 2014 World Cup. With his MBE appointment today, Hansen proves once again, you can’t keep a good legend down!
