Gerrard Shines, Crouch Delights in Anfield Comedy …

If you stumbled onto Anfield on Saturday, you’d have thought Elvis had made a comeback tour with the hullabaloo around the place. But no, it was merely a congregation of footballers turned nostalgists, a.k.a the Liverpool Legends. Fans traded their couch potato time for some old-school football tricks and trips under the sun, cheering like it was the Champions League final. Surely, who needs Salah when you’ve got the legendary Sinama-Pongelle in the mix, right?

Imagine an entire generation of Liverpool faithful who managed to hear about a time when Chelsea knew what losing felt like. They watched in eager anticipation, praying for Steven Gerrard to say hello again to Chelsea’s net – alas, Peter Crouch’s long legs stole the show! Crouchy by name, not by nature, he glided in to score twice, celebrating with his beaming mini-me in the audience. He may have left Chelsea blue, but he painted the town red.

The LFC Foundation even got some pockets filled, turning the clumsy tango of misplaced passes into football gold. Talk about scoring points off the pitch for health programs! As players did their victory jog – or rather a leisurely shuffle – round Anfield, they weren’t just sports stars anymore but community heroes, proving that in Liverpool, the heart and the history go hand in hand.
