Penguins Glide to Sweden, Reds Stuck in UK Fog…

Liverpool fans dreaming of seeing their beloved team on US soil will have to hold their horses—or should we say their soccer cleats. While FSG’s Pittsburgh Penguins are twirling off to Sweden for some icy escapades, the idea of Liverpool playing stateside has been left stranded like a ball in the neighbor’s yard.

The whole “let’s take our footy overseas” notion has been chilled by Tony Scholes, the Premier League’s chief football officer. Scholes, in an early February chat, confirmed that there’s no hurry for the Reds to take a bite out of the Big Apple or any other American pie. And John W. Henry, FSG bigwig, backed that sentiment by treating it like a skunk at a garden party—no thanks!

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s American counterparts, the Penguins, are all set for their Swedish showdown with the Nashville Predators in the 2025 NHL Global Series. Over in baseball land, the FSG-owned Boston Red Sox have already crossed the pond. Yet Premier League fans and hopeful owners like Tom Werner have to close their travel brochures, at least for now. Until then, the UK fans will have the luxury of home games while dreaming of a transatlantic match someday—just not today.
