James Milner’s Goal and Heartfelt Tribute…
James Milner was up to his usual heroic antics as Brighton faced Manchester City at the Amex Stadium, scoring a penalty and celebrating in true fashion by mimicking Diogo Jota’s famous PlayStation celebration. Rumor has it, Milner’s tribute was so heartfelt that even his socks wept a little on the sidelines. Jota and his brother Andre Silva sadly passed away in a car accident this summer, leading Liverpool to retire the number 20 jersey in his honor. Milner, after receiving permission from Brighton teammate Carlos Baleba, now dons the number to pay respect.
Upon hearing the number 20 was available, Milner immediately requested it as a tribute to honor his former Liverpool bud Diogo Jota. During bus rides, Milner frequently praised Jota to Adam Webster, pointing out Jota’s slick moves and calling him a magician on the pitch. One can almost imagine Jota pulling rabbits out of footballs. Along with being an incredible player, Jota was known for being a great family man and friend. Milner cherished the fun they had together, bonding over their shared stubbornness—like two rams butting heads lovingly, only with more goals than goats.
