Isak’s Summer Drama with Liverpool…

Newcastle’s top brass are as upbeat as a cat in a fish market, despite the fireworks over blocking Alexander Isak’s Liverpool transfer. The 25-year-old forward has been the summer’s drama king after missing the preseason fun in Asia and getting VIP backstage access to solo training sessions. When told he wasn’t on sale, Isak reportedly blew a gasket like a kettle that forgot how to whistle. Liverpool’s sky-high bid couldn’t compete with Newcastle’s $202 million price tag, and like trying to use spaghetti as a straw, Liverpool’s hopes faltered, although they might return with a record-setting offer.

The plot thickens with Newcastle annoyed at Isak’s reps for steering him like a satnav with a paper map, and they weren’t thrilled with Liverpool’s approach either. Although pressures rise like an overfilled balloon ready to pop, the Magpies fancy they’ll sort things out, hoping Isak flies back into the team nest. Instead of sunbathing on Tyneside, when the team was in Asia, Isak trained at his old stomping grounds, Real Sociedad. Absent from a lively 2-2 friendly with Espanyol, Newcastle’s hoping for a future where Isak signs a better contract, with a snazzy release clause in tow.
