Liverpool’s Cup Final Blues Continues…
Is Mohamed Salah channelling his inner Harry Potter in cup finals and disappearing into thin air? According to Jamie O’Hara, Salah pulls a “Harry Kane” when it comes to important showdowns. Despite dazzling during regular seasons with 32 goals in 43 appearances, the goal wizard has conjured just one penalty goal in seven Liverpool cup finals. In the latest episode of this tragedy, Salah vanished from sight in the Carabao Cup as Newcastle pulled the rug from under Liverpool’s feet, winning 2-1.
O’Hara went on talkSPORT, sounding every bit like a football agony aunt, and wondered out loud if Salah could transform into Liverpool’s fairy-taled hero alongside legends like Gerrard and Rush. He believes their trophies are a result of team effort rather than magical performances by solo players. As for Salah, “He needs to cast more spells in a final,” said O’Hara, adding that you can’t wave your wand during league games and then vanish when it matters.
With only nine more Premier League games to go, Arne Slot’s gang is leading by 12 points, taking the top-of-the-table stroll to new levels. Yet, O’Hara is not impressed. He’s of the opinion that Liverpool may be efficient, but they’re also cashing in on the free fall of other elite clubs. Against PSG and Newcastle, the Reds were more red-faced than red-hot, looking like the team who found someone else’s invisibility cloak. Arne Slot’s men appeared outpaced and outrun, all in need of a little magic.
